Polyflor has always believed in training, right from our beginning when Polyflor was re-introduced into South Africa over 15 years ago, it has been a concern for us.
There have been several attempts to formalize training, which have come to nothing, despite this being a great need within the industry.  It has been a difficult and problematic effort. There is a noticeable lack of young people entering the industry and this is an anxiety for all those involved in fitting vinyl flooring in all its different aspects.  It is a skill, which needs to be taught; it is not a simple process and has many inherent dangers that lead to failed installations. Each and every installation has its own problems, be it the screed, notoriously bad in this day and age, the manufacturer’s instructions, which are often left unread, moisture content which is not checked correctly, the checking of batch numbers, or the following of the industry guidelines with regard to adhesives and fitting techniques.  All are problematic. Polyflor also markets solid wood flooring and there again this is a complicated process that needs to be trained.

The Polyflor answer to this problem was to appoint Charles Davids as the Training Manager.  Charles is well known in the industry, and undoubtedly his knowledge and fitting techniques are probably the best in the industry. Charles has been to sites all over Southern Africa to assist and train fitting teams.  If there is a need on a Polyflor installation, Charles will be there to assist.  The investment in time and money has been large but Polyflor feel that it is well worth this investment for the success of their product installations.
